OJSC TANECO History goes back to the end of 90-s of XX century. In August, 1997 RT Ministry adopted a resolution on Establishment of OJSC Nizhnekamsk Refinery Plant, which was registered on December 30 of the same year.

Establishment of OJSC Nizhnekamsk Refinery stimulated development of a new field of Tatarstan industry — Modern Refinery. Thanks to hard efforts of our team headed by General Director Mr. Khamza Az. Bagmanov and all around support of RT Government, JSC Tatneft, JSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim and other Shareholders the set task was fulfilled in December, 2002, Nizhnekamsk Refinery Basic Complex oriented at processing of high sulphur oils with capacity 7 mln tpa had been put into operation. It comprised CDU-VDU, Bitumen production unit, Tar Visbreaker and Medium Distillates Hydrotreating Complex. Therefore, the missing link between Oil Recovery and Petrochemistry in Tatarstan is fulfilled.

In 2005 the Republican Government set before Company’s personnel the large-scale task to construct Oil Refining and Petrochemical Complex which would not have analogues in Russia and CIS countries. Operating activities of OJSC Nizhnekamsk Refinery had been stopped and there was formed CJSC Nizhnekamsk Refinery (ZAO NNPZ). In June 2007 CJSC Nizhnekamsk Refinery changed the company’s name for Open Joint Stock Company TANECO (Tatarstan Refining Complex).
